President Bob's
NEW MEMBER CHALLENGE
Extended to May 17
Dear Optimists,

On Saturday, March 31, we will hold our annual Tri-Star Basketball Skills Contest from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Upper Merion Middle School. George N., Tripp H. and I will Co-Chair this event. We will need members to assist with the event, so please call me at 610-964-1004 or e-mail me at bkrutsick@aol.com if you would like to help us with this fun skills contest.
On the evening of April 18, the Valley Forge Optimist Club will receive the King of Prussia Chamber of Commerce's Excellence in Community Service Award. This award is to recognize the Club for demonstrating the true spirit of volunteerism in promoting community spirit in King of Prussia". This award recognizes the commitment of our Club to Service to Community and Youth. I will be accepting this award on behalf of all Club members both past and current
I would like to have a Club member to volunteer to set up a bowling tournament among our teens in the community. If you would like to chair such an event, please let me know.
Time is moving quickly, and we have a long way to go to achieve a goal of fifty new members for the Club by March 17. So we will extend the deadline until May 17. That means that the prize of dinner for two at Sullivan's will have to wait for the Club member that recruits the most new members.
For those of you who missed our Essay Contest Dinner and Program, you missed three fine youth from our community-students from Norristown Area High School. This is what we are all about-working with our youth, our future leaders. Thanks to Skip A. for being Chair for the Essay Contest. You did another outstanding job.
Thanks for all that you do for our Club. Each of us has a busy schedule. And as you go about that schedule, remember that "Our true wealth is counted in the goodwill we show and the lives we touch".

For the best and only the best
Your Club President
Bob Krutsick

A Visiting we will Go!
VF Optimist Club members always learn something new when they visit other clubs in the Pennsylvania Upper Delaware District.
First and foremost we appreciate the strength and resources of our own club. Many clubs in the district are made up of aging friends that like to get together for dinner once or twice per month. Yes they still run a few projects for youth in their communities and they may raise funds for scholarships but they are at risk.
Clubs must leave their comfort zone and attract new young members or they will not have a club in the not to distant future. When Optimist International looses by merger or return of Charter, the youth of some community looses contact with adults that provide opportunities to perform at a high level.
We need to make sure we do not become too comfortable. Where are the new ideas, new projects new members referred from our own young members. Let us make sure Valley Forge doesn't drop the torch.
Next year the District will be realigned. We will have different clubs in our Zone. As one of the leading Clubs, let us commit that we will host a zone meeting early next year and visit every other club at least once. We should try to do joint projects that help these clubs and as a result create greater opportunities for more kids than we can do by ourselves.
